Gun Powder Falls State Park - Hammerman Area Beach in Middle River, MD

A trek upward to Middle River, led is to Gun Powder Falls State Park. The beach is actually part of Gun Powder River. A very lovely park. The beach is very large and the water is fairly clear. It gave me the greatest opportunity to get some practice with a reflector in, proved it’s worth and amazing results. Photoshop is a great tool, but my constantly challenge is it up my lighting game.

If you would like to check out Gun Powder Falls State Park there is a $3.00 entrance fee. Well worth it. Very clean. Bring the whole family! Boat rentals are available till Labor Day.

It’s not all about photoshop. Sometimes great lighting an art form!

Rocky Point Park and Beach - Essex, MD

What can we say about Rocky Point Park and beach in Essex Maryland? Seemed fitting for a very short day trip that took us below Baltimore. My main attraction was Hart Miller Island which is located directly behind me in the first picture. Hart-miller island is actually open to the public in 2016 and is an actual state park. However the only transportation to the island island is by boat. The closest rental is Baltimore County sailing center. Located right nexts to Rocky Point Beach Park. Rentals are only available Memorial Day to Labor Day weather and wind permitting.

There is an entrance fee to the park itself. It serves as a launch area, beach and fishing spot. The beach is small but has and has a changing area and picnic tables.

Mill Creek Falls & Lock 12

Another holiday weekend adventure. Last week we missed out on Mill Creek Falls. Today it was top of the list. It is one of my favorite local falls. Lock 12 itself is quite visually interesting. Especially when the dam is up, and we haven’t received a lot of rain. Visitors may go around the dam but not in it. There is someone patrolling to ensure safety of visitors.

We ran into a very stunning little deer trying to grab a drink on our was to the main dam. Thankfully I have the telephone lens at the ready to snap a few pics.

Mill creek falls are actually above Holtwood dam. A small gravel road takes you to the parking area for both.

Otter Creek

Urey Outlook and Indian Steps

Back to school time ends our vacation season. ATB is always in location. What I love doing most is location scout. I have an amazing array of locations that I have scoped out over the past 6 years in the tri-state area. Otter Creek & Indian steps in Airville are a favorite. Indians steps has its own waterfall. However it is steep incline, and not so impressive when low flow periods with less rain. Some neat scenic features make for a neat portrait spot.

Urey Overlook is a easily overlooked trail, but has one of the most beautiful views in the local area of the river. A very short walk from the parking area to the overlook is worth the trek.
